those ideas during the negotiations had it not been for the hard work done over the last four years by that team. I approach the next four years here in the Assembly with a very strong bedrock of ideas and policies that have been put in place by my former colleagues, and that fills me with great confidence.
I am optimistic about the next four years. There are challenges that lie ahead for me, my staff and my party. But I am optimistic because in those challenges I will not be alone. I have the strong support of my party, which has a record number of members, and they are full of enthusiasm for the next four years. In those challenges I will be guided by the great ideas for Canberra that my party has prepared and 17 years of accumulated experience of working from the crossbench.
I look forward to working with all members of the Assembly over the next four years.

Election of Deputy Speaker
MADAM SPEAKER: We now move to the nomination of candidates for Deputy Speaker. Standing order 4 requires that the Assembly proceed, at its first sitting after an election, to elect a Deputy Speaker.
MS GALLAGHER (Molonglo—Chief Minister) (10.52): I propose Mary Porter, and move:
That Ms Porter be elected Deputy Speaker.
MADAM SPEAKER: Ms Porter, do you accept the nomination?
MS PORTER: I do.
MADAM SPEAKER: Is there any further proposal?
The time for proposals has expired. There being no further proposal, I declare Ms Porter, the member proposed, to have been elected as Deputy Speaker.
