It is interesting that during this large national debate on education over a range of issues—national testing, national curricula, common year 12 certificates, teacher performance pay, autonomy for principals and work force planning in the education system—those opposite were silent. I took the opportunity to privately raise this with members of the opposition, the opposition spokesperson and the Greens and then wrote to them seeking their views on some of these major issues, in the hope that there might be an ACT consensus on the need, for example, to protect our years 11 and 12 assessment system.
