facilitate a conference, but also the information acquired by the facilitator during the preconferencing stage will be provided with legal protection.

Mr Speaker, these amendments introduce a framework for the release of protected and sensitive information under the act. Guidance is provided as to what information may be released by an information holder. Finally, the power to make standing orders for places of detention have been extended from the current date of July 2006 to December 2006 to allow for the detailed and comprehensive consideration of the policy matters related to youth justice to be completed.

Mr Speaker, I would like to thank the opposition and the Greens for their support for these amendments and for their contributions to the debate today. I would also like to thank Adam Stankevicius, Angela Buchanan, Fiona McIntosh, Ronia McDade and Lou Denley, officers of the Office of Children, Youth and Family Support, for their commitment of thought and effort to bringing the review and consultation recommendations to fruition in these amendments. I commend the bill to the Assembly.

Depression

Good neighbour day

MRS BURKE (Molonglo) (5.53): Tonight, if I may, I would like to bring a couple of matters to the attention of the house. Firstly, I would like to give a real pat on the back to a lady by the name of Leanne Pethick, the CEO of depressioNet. Each year more than 200,000 Australians turn to depressioNet for information, help and 24-hour peer support. That figure has increased by 20 per cent each year. Of that figure, 79 per cent are workers who say depressioNet has helped them maintain their employment while living with depression. Bullying in the workplace is identified as a contributing problem.

There are many interesting statistics here. For example, in the 24 hours following the resignation of Geoff Gallop, depressioNet registered an increase of 48 per cent in visitors and a staggering 104 per cent increase in registrations to join the service’s online support community, which includes message board and chat rooms.
