Election of Speaker

The Clerk informed members of the requirement of standing order 1 (d) that the Assembly now proceed to elect a Speaker.

MR HARGREAVES: I propose Wayne Berry as Speaker of the Assembly and I move:

The Clerk: Does the member accept the nomination?

MR BERRY: I accept the nomination.

The Clerk: Is there any further proposal?

The time for proposals has expired. There being no further proposal, I declare Mr Wayne Berry, the member proposed, to have been elected as Speaker.

Mr Speaker having taken the chair-

MR SPEAKER: Members, thank you for that vote of confidence.

Election of Chief Minister

MR SPEAKER: Members, the next item of business is the election of the Chief Minister.

MR QUINLAN: Mr Speaker, firstly, congratulations on your appointment. I propose that Jon Stanhope be elected as Chief Minister for the Australian Capital Territory and I move:
