MR SPEAKER (Mr Cornwell) took the chair at 10.30 am and asked members to stand in silence and pray or reflect on their responsibilities to the people of the Australian Capital Territory.
Mr Speaker informed the Assembly that, due to the unavoidable absence of the Clerk, the Deputy Clerk would act as Clerk.
Mr Stanhope, having delivered a notice of motion of no confidence in the Chief Minister, the Acting Clerk, pursuant to standing order 103, announced that, in seven days hence, in accordance with standing order 81, Mr Stanhope shall move:
That this Assembly no longer has confidence in the Chief Minister, Ms Carnell, MLA.
MR BERRY: Mr Speaker, I seek leave to move a motion in relation to the Assembly sitting pattern.
Leave granted.
MR BERRY: I move:
That the resolution of the Assembly of 9 December 1999 setting the days that the Assembly shall meet in 2000 be amended by omitting the dates of 11, 12 and 17 October 2000.
Mr Speaker, I do not need to speak to the motion. I think members understand the motion. I will therefore leave it to Assembly members and urge them to support the motion.
