Agriculture and Landcare Costs Consultancy

Ms Westende - asked the Minister for the Environment, Land and Planning.

(1) Why .was consultant advice required on program._ delivery costs for.Agriculture.and Landcare.

Mr Wood - the answer to .the Members question,is as follows:

(1). An external review of Agriculture and Lancer. operations undertaken in 1990-91 highlighted the fact that it was very difficult to determine. the cost effectiveness of field operationalism example dam construction, which are theresponsibility of this-unit.

The difficulty arose because .of the .very large amount of information which needed to be analysed to provide an answer. The.cohs.ultant.undertook this analysis.

As a result of the consultants report, changes in. work practices have been implemented and the amount of-cost-recoverable work undertaken has increased.
