Griffin Centre

QUESTION N0. 143

Ms Follett - asked the Minister for Finance and Urban Services

(1) When will the Griffin Centre review committee have its first meeting.

(2) What date is this committee due to report.

(3) Have arrangements been made for the council of Cultural Societies to be a member of the committee.

(t) Does the Minister agree :hat the Council is in the belt position to advise the committee tee or. the way the site is currently being utilised.

Mr Duby - the answer to the Members question is as follows:

(1) As I mentioned in my response to Question No. 1:1, at a meeting wish representatives of the council for Cultural Societies 7 proposed that a group of officers representing the relevant agencies consider the future C: the Griffin Centre >;;e. It was intended that the group would enable the agencies to develop a co-ordinated view with respect to the future of the site. Discussions have taken places on an informal basis between agencies and with representatives of the users of :he Centre.

(2) Now that an announcement on the Canberra Times site has been made by the Government, the Chief Minister has directed that these agencies Jointly prepare a development plan for the precinct. There has been n0 time frame placed on the plan at this stage. However, the Government is committed to expedite the process to ensure the community benefits as quickly as possible from the proposal.

(3) The Council for Cultural Societies and representatives of the users of the Centre as well as the broader community will be fully consulted i^. both the development of the new Centre aid the Development plan for the precinct. .
